Club code of conduct

Our spirit

Meadowvale Badminton Club is a place for people who love badminton to play, have fun, improve their game, and connect with others who share that enthusiasm.

Our club has always benefited from experienced players who were willing to welcome beginners, play alongside them, and generously share what they knew. Many of us grew as players because someone took the time to encourage and guide us. We invite every member to continue that tradition: share your experience when you can, support those who want to learn, and help others enjoy the game as much as you do.

As our community grows, we also encourage everyone to play beyond their usual group. If you see a name you do not recognize, introduce yourself and invite them into a game. Mixing with different partners and opponents helps us improve, keeps our sessions welcoming, and gives everyone the opportunity to feel that they belong.

You will naturally have favourite partners and familiar friends, but we hope every member will help create the kind of club where people are included, friendships can grow, and a shared love of badminton brings us together.

Court & group cards

You may only move your own name tag. Never move someone else’s name in or out of a court or the waiting queue.

If you’re on the waiting queue and a court opens up, move yourself in. Coordinators may step in to help balance groups if the queue backs up, but the default is self-service.

Keep group cards and name tags where you found them at the end of the night.

Equipment

No exceptions

Non-marking running shoes are required on the court. Marking soles damage the gym floor.

Fair play & scoring

Game 21 points, rally scoring.
Deuce At 20–20, win by 2. Capped at 30 — first to 30 wins outright, no further deuce.
Line calls The player closest to the shuttle calls it in or out for their side.
In doubt Give the point to your opponent, or call a replay if it’s genuinely unclear. Don’t let a line call turn into an argument.

Conduct

No foul language on or off the court.

No harassment, discrimination, or personal attacks. Disagreements happen — keep them about the play, not the person.

Respect coordinators’ decisions on court assignments and queue management.

Facility

Please stay in the gym. The only areas outside it you should use are the change room and washroom.

Help stack equipment and tidy your area before you leave.

Safety

Warm up before playing, especially early in the session.

If you’re injured or feel unwell, sit out — and tell a coordinator so they can adjust the queue.

Report facility hazards (wet floor, damaged equipment) to a coordinator immediately.

Attendance

If you sign up and can’t make it, let a coordinator know as early as possible so your spot can go to someone on the waitlist.

Persistent no-shows without notice may affect priority for future sessions.

When rules aren’t enough

This code can’t cover every situation. If something feels off, or a rule doesn’t fit a specific moment, talk to a coordinator. Repeated or serious violations — harassment, deliberate rule-breaking, damaging equipment — may result in a warning or, in serious cases, suspension from the club.
